Overview:
Bishop is a small town located on the eastern slope of the Sierra mountains in California and is considered by some to have a sampling of the best bouldering in North America.
What makes Bishop a unique bouldering destination is the variety of types of rock that surround
it. If you want big, tall featured granite boulders then head up to The Buttermilks, The Pollen Grains
or Druid Stones. For smaller, pocketed volanic
boulders check out The Happies or The Sads.
Info:
Bishop is pretty well set up for climbers with cheap camping, good coffee shops, hot springs and decent pubs all located nearby. Most climbers cheap out and stay at The Pit,
a BLM campground that costs $2/night for a car and has pit toilets. It's located near The Happies and just about anyone can tell you how to get there.
A guidebook was released in late 2007 that describes the local amenities and is avaiable at most climbing shops including the incredible well stocked Wilson's Eastside Sports on main street in Bishop. Photos:
