Surfing on Vancouver Island
Information:
Surfing on Vancouver Island is located mostly between Tofino and Ucluelet near the Pacific Rim National Park. There is surfing to the south at Jordan River and Sombrio but I have never been there. There is also surfing to the north and on some of the remote islands but you have to take a boat to get there. This page currently focuses on the surfing between Ucluelet and Tofino.

To get to Ucluelet or Tofino by car you have to drive north from Nanaimo to Hwy 4 and follow that west through Port Alberni. How you get to Nanaimo is up to you. Ferries can take you to Victoria or Nanaimo.

Tofino is the larger of the two cities but both are relatively small with pretty much the same amenities. Tofino is a little more 'touristy' while Ucluelet is a little more rustic. Both towns have the necessary pubs and surf rental shops.

For camping I recommend Surf Junction, a great campsite close to Uclulet but even better it is close to Wickaninnish Beach. It has a hot tub, sauna and a full surf rental/lesson shop.

Here's some photos of surfing on Vancouver Island, BC. Where you can surf year round just be prepared to get cold!

Each beach has a different characteristic to it. Everyone has their favourite beach and knows where to go for specific swell and wind direction. On any given day one beach can be pumping while the others are dead. Or vice-versa they can all be too big and blown out while a protected cove is still happening. I've tried to present which beach takes which swell and tides as best I can remember them.

As with most athlete/photographers these photos suck since I'd rather be out doing it than sitting on the beach taking photos.
