Trip Journal - July 2007
After a month in Vancouver, complete with a solid week of rain, I'm back on the road again. I managed to do quite a bit of finger strength workouts
while in Vancouver so we'll see how that works out on the road.
I didn't get out to Squamish as much as I would have liked but I did put in lots of hours at work. I managed one day out at Horne Lake, one evening climbing gear in Squamish and a few attempts at bouldering but that was about it. I didn't even get to touch the chief which was really unfortunate. The highlight of the last few weeks was definitely Nikki and Jeremy's wedding. It was a beautiful ceremony and wonderful reception and it was great to see all the friends who showed up. Kenny and Julie from Columbus (and Red River Gorge fame) even made it out and climbed a few days in Squamish. The day after the wedding Audrey and I drove up to Kelowna to surprise Mike Shannon. He and his fiance April were having and engagement party and I really wanted to attend. I managed to finally sleep a bit that night and the following day we did a 6am bouldering session up at the boulder fields above Kelowna, then I got in my truck and started driving. Next stop - Riggins, Idaho. Kevin Wilkinson is hanging out down there and has convinced me that I'll really enjoy the climbing, mostly endurance and fitness oriented routes with some cool movement. I can't wait!
Ah Canada. Home of the clean air and freedom. It's good to be home.
Not much has been happening in the last little while and being back home it seems hard to still call what I'm doing as a 'roadtrip'. Audrey is doing a two month contract job at Microsoft, I'm trying to put in some hours in the office back in Vancouver but in between we're climbing quite a bit in Squamish or around Seattle. I flew from Sydney down to Melbourne, Melbourne to Honolulu and finally Honolulu to Seattle. All in all it was over 24 hours of travel but it was great to fly into Seattle just as the sun was setting. We flew up the Oregon coast but you could see all the volcanoes just inside the coastline. What was really weird is that in Australia it was the shortest days of the year. The sun rose around 7/7:30 and set by 5:30. Then I fly into Seattle at 9:30 at night and the sun was still up. It's taken me quite awhile to adjust to the light difference. I then spent two days in Seattle and flew up to Kelowna to see my parents and get my truck outfitted for living in. The first weekend I met Audrey in Squamish. She came up from Seattle to spend 5 days in Squamish (I spent one day in the office), I then drove her down to Seattle and I spent four days there before returning to Vancouver to spend most of the week working in the office. I'm probably not going to update this site much through July or August but I hope to spend the rest of July around Vancouver/Squamish and then make my way over to Salt Lake City for the tradeshow and spend the rest of August in Rifle. Our plans for the fall aren't set in stone but I know my brother (Frank) is getting married in Boston in September so I'm hoping to spend some time in Rumney and then I think we'll head back to the Red River Gorge to check out the Petzl Roc Trip happening there. After that... who knows? Europe? More North America? Asia? The trip continues! |
